i was just wondering how a jehovah's witness would answer this.. in john 5:22, the nwt states:.

"the father judges no one, but has committed all the judging to the son".

in rev 18:8, the nwt states:.

Herein lies the dilemma for me...these opposing arguments!! John 14 v 28 says 'the father is greater than I am' and the Catholic Encyclopaedia admits the trinity idea was only developed in the 4th century...and Jesus was SENT he said so repeatedly.... which by implication confirms a SENDER...he also insisted he was only the SON of god....and he continually urged followers to love and pray to his father who he was returning to so how can he be a trinity????

But if you're looking for short, simple canned answers with little depth, you'll never be satisfied. Your so-called problems were answered quite well many centuries ago. You want the truth you need to put the time in.

True, to a point. It does not mean that Jesus, the creature, the created humanity of the God-man that is referred to as the hypostatic union is God Almighty, at least according to Orthodox Christianity (Catholics and the Reformed churches) which teaches that “The humanity of Christ is a creature, it is not God” (Catholic Encyclopedia, 922).

But if Jesus is the only judge, and YHWH is the only judge, then it supports the trinitarian concept of Jesus being God.

WHEN is a simple question--but, the Bible just can't help us answer

as i mentioned in a previous topic, the use of quantity, numbering, dates, measurements and such in the bible is impossibly wonky for several reaasons.. 1. in hebrew, greek and latin there were no separate number symbols exclusively used for math purposes.

instead, letters of their alphabet did double-duty.

2. superstitious ideas about the "meaning" of numbers was rampant and gematria (looking for hidden mysterious in the inherent "number of "words") preoccupied scriptural writing and studies.. 3. calendar changes throughout history (such as the switch from the julian calendar to the gregorian) were haphazardly begun by different countries at different times.

Working, as I do, in a used bookstore (in the Religion section!) I lay hands upon a great many theology books and texts, histories and such.

Just because you can read doesn't mean you can think. What's your education level? What university degrees do you hold? You try to come off as highly educated, but I think you have a lot of people fooled. may 2009 pg 11 , it says that jerusalem siege was in 607, according to professor michael jursa working in the british museum, but curiously if you go to the british museum official webpage, (in "search" put michael jursa) you ll see that it says the siege of jerusalen was in 587 bc !!.

Looking for questions to get my foot in the door

i'm looking for anyone who may have a tried and true question that i can ask my elder father so that i can get him to think about the fds and the fact that they don't have holy spirit to direct us.

i've tried the un, 607/587, and the generation.

has something else worked for anyone out there.. he has said regarding the u.n. that it was an oversight.

But whatever you do, don't make the mistake of turning your back on Scripture like the ex-JW atheists and God-haters on this site have done; they are just Satan's minions and offer very little in the long run. The biggest mistake you can do is pretend that the Bible is not the word of God, and thereby do your own thing as you see fit. It's understandable that the JWs have poisoned you to the truth as represented in the Bible, but that is their version, their error, and that's based on their NWT Bible, which is no real Bible at all. If you have been in for very long, you probably have been brainwashed to believe that Christendom is the work of Satan. It's not. You probably think the Trinity is the work of the devil. It's not. Don't turn your back on Him and deny Him. Do not be anti-Christ. Don't swing from one ridiculous extreme to another more ridiculous extreme. Some of them are preaching on the radio.

i'm pleased to have found this site...i've browsed a little ...read quite a lot and gasped at some stories, giggled at the one liners and nodded in recognition of others' strong opinions and can relate to a great deal.. i'll try and keep my intro as brief as possible for anyone kind enough to listen.. i got involved with the witnesses in the late 70's in the uk.

i was in my early 20s and had had a love and fascination for the bible since my difficult childhood.

i soon brought my life into 'line' although it took a long time for me to pack up the smoking which didnt go down well in those days when 6 months of study should have been enough and if you hadnt cracked it then it was suggested that you were some kind of loser.... i reared my 4 children in the 'truth' as well as i could but i cant claim that we were a 'strong' family in their terms...just muddled along really..my husband at the time was a very difficult and abusive man and home life wasnt easy for any of us with his anger, jealousy and violence.
